Four of Pentacles Tarot Card Meaning

  • Upright security, saving, control, conservation, holding on
  • Reversed greed, looseness, releasing control, spending from fear

Four of Pentacles upright

A figure holds one coin to his chest, another on his head, two under his feet. Nothing is being spent and nothing is at risk. This is the card of financial security and its shadow: the buffer is sensible, the grip is not. Ask whether the saving is protecting a plan or substituting for one.

Four of Pentacles reversed

Reversed, the grip loosens — sometimes into generosity, sometimes into leakage. Spending to relieve anxiety, or hoarding that has become its own anxiety. Either way, the relationship with money has become emotional rather than practical.

What Four of Pentacles means for you

Love & relationships

Possessiveness or the fear of losing someone. Reversed, it points to letting go, or to clinging harder when you feel it slipping.

Career & work

Holding a position tightly, or protecting information and resources. Reversed, it warns about control that is costing you collaboration.

Money & resources

Saving, budgeting, and building a buffer — genuinely sensible. Reversed, it points to either reckless spending or to a grip that has become fear.

Reading this card in a spread changes its meaning — position and neighbours matter as much as the card itself.
